Anime Battles:

Kenshin vs. Gohei
As the first actual fight between Kenshin and someone in the television series, it is known to be one of the shortest. A landslide victory was what Kenshin earned, and he did it with ease. Hiruma Gohei had confronted Kaoru in the Kamiya Dojo, wanting revenge. Years prior, Kaoru's father had broken Gohei's right thumb, forcing him to learn kenjutsu with his left hand. Gohei had planned to actually kill Kaoru, but he was then confronted by Kenshin, merely known as only a rurouni at the time.

Simply, Kenshin knocked out Gohei's men with his Sakabatou and revealed himself to be the Hitokiri Battousai, whom Gohei claimed he was. Gohei, arrogant as ever, said the title of the legendary Hitokiri was his for the taking and readied for a downward stroke. However, Kenshin had leapt up before Gohei brought down his sword and revealed the first Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu technique of his arsenal, the Ryu Tsui Sen, breaking Gohei's thumb in the process.

Kenshin vs. Gasuke
This battle started off between Kaoru and the Shuei Gumi. Kaoru had felt sorry for Yahiko and wished to pull him out of his lifestyle of crime. Yahiko had worked for the group to pay off a debt his late father had with them. After a game of odd-even was played, disagreements rose and the truth was revealed that the Shuei Gumi was just using Yahiko all along. Kaoru took out a few of the Shuei Gumi members, but her shinai was cut in half by Gasuke, supposedly the strongest of the group, and his hidden sword.

Kenshin had come in at the right time to save Yahiko and Kaoru. Gasuke, who claimed he was a Hitokiri, prepared to execute Kenshin. With just his Sakabatou's handle, Kenshin sent Gasuke soaring straight into the ceiling. An agreement was made with the head of the Shuei Gumi, Yahiko could go with Kenshin. The agreement was reached rather quickly, due to the fact that the head was afraid of the eyes Kenshin possessed.

Kenshin vs. Ujiki
On a day where the police had come looking for Kenshin, Yahiko rushed into town where the rurouni was purchasing tofu for dinner to warn him. There, the boy found trouble being caused by the sword police of Satsuma. Yahiko stood up for the innocent people being misjudged and charged with execution, thus putting him in the same situation as well. Kenshin shortly arrive upon the crowded scene and dealt with the sword police once they had planned to execute the entire crowd because they had objected to what they thought was right.

With ease, Kenshin darted through a bunch of the sword police, taking them out with his Sakabatou. When the captain of the squad, Ujiki, was left, he demonstrated his Jigen Ryu technique. However, Kenshin was too quick. Kenshin had avoided Ujiki's technique, bounced off a nearby wall, landed behind the captain, and knocked him out with a slash to the back.

Sanosuke vs. Drunk Men
Three drunks babbled about freedom and prosperity while dining at the Akabeko. Tae tried to calm them down once they had gotten too rowdy, but she was backhanded in the face for her efforts. Zanza, a frequent customer at the Akabeko who never pays his bill, stood up for Tae, also being a bit annoyed by the drunks. In Zanza's opinion, they're babbling is uselss, for they talk about freedom and prosperity, but can't treat a lady right.

Outside of the Akabeko, one of the three drunks challenged the gangster Zanza first. This first opponent had carried a hidden weapon, which he tried to plant on Zanza's forehead. However, somehow, Zanza was able to dodge the attack and twist the man's arm back. The move used to finish off the drunk was the almighty finger flick. One of the drunk's friends prepared to draw his hidden sword, but thanks to Kenshin, the trio was scared off.

Kenshin vs. Sanosuke(part 1)
Zanza was "hired" by Hiruma Gohei to fight Kenshin, formerly the Hitokiri Battousai, just after he had met the rurouni briefly at the Akabeko. Zanza accepted the offer immediately, since he had longed for a good opponent for what seemed like eternity. At night, Kenshin had sensed a presence at the Kamiya Dojo. When he went to investigate, he found Zanza waiting at the entrance with his infamous Zanbatou in hand.

Watching was Kaoru and Yahiko. Kaoru identified Zanza's sword quickly and was amazed that a man like him could hold and fight with the weapon so easily. Zanza charged for Kenshin, demanding that he forget his non-killing policy for now. With a mighty downward strike, Zanza tried to crush Kenshin in one hit, but Himura leapt away. Quickly following up his blow, Zanza swung upwards at Kenshin, but missed due to the rurouni's speed. When Kenshin was finally back on the ground, the fight was paused. Zanza could not fight before girls, as Ayame and Suzume walked out to see what was going on, so he scheduled the fight for another time and walked away.

Kenshin vs. Sanosuke(part 2)
Kenshin was called out by Zanza after their brief confrontation from the night before to a field near the river crossing from the community into town. Watching the battle was Kaoru and Yahiko. Zanza had leapt into the air to start things and came down with a powerful stroke. However, Kenshin had leapt away and avoided Zanza's horizontal slash following. Due to the weight and shape of the sword, Zanza had a limited style of attacking. Once Kenshin had told Zanza he knew his weakness, Zanza remained in a shock state, allowing Kenshin to run down the large sword and hit the gangster in the back of the head. Zanza again tried to slash Kenshin, but the rurouni simply ducked and executed the Sou Ryu Sen, knocking Zanza down for the first time.

During Zanza's "rest period", Gohei had run in and threatened to kill Kaoru and Yahiko. When Zanza got up, he took out Gohei, reminding his employer that the fight was his and his alone. The fight resumed with Zanza again executing a horizontal slash, but when Kenshin leapt up to evade, Zanza spun his Zanbatou rapidly and brought the sword down with full force at Kenshin. Yet, Kenshin was able to dodge the Zanbatou and cut it in half after reversing his Sakabatou. Although Zanza could still stand after it, the finishing blow was Kenshin's Ryu Tsui Sen. The fight finally ended when Zanza admitted defeat once he realized that Kenshin was no longer Ishin dog and Meiji supporter he wanted to kill so badly.

Kenshin vs. Jin'e(part 1)
Police Chief Uramura had confronted Kenshin at the Kamiya Dojo during lunch one day to ask if he could assist in the capture of a serial killer named the Kurogasa. The Kurogasa was only killing high ranking officials of the Meiji Government, so Kenshin took the offer. The next place the Kurogasa was to strike was a man by the name of Tani, whom Kenshin knew from the past when he was the Battousai. Sano had tagged along for no reason, he just wanted to fight. Midnight struck and the screams of the policemen were heard outside. Expecting the murderer, Kenshin, Sano, and a bunch of hired swordsmen awaited his arrival, but suddenly were paralyzed.

The Kurogasa made his appearence. Before he could begin killing anyone, Kenshin revealed that only he was not paralyzed. Leaping from behind Sano, Kenshin had tried to strike down the Kurogasa in one hit, but ended up only cutting his hat. Both men looked at each other and recognized their alternate identities. The Kurogasa was a Hitokiri of the Shinsen Gumi whose real name is Udou Jin'e, and of course, Kenshin was the Hitokiri Battousai. Jin'e wanted to fight the legendary Hitokiri after waiting for such a long time. To start off, he used the Shin no Ippou paralysis technique. That did no good, as Kenshin already demonstrated he could not be affected by it.

Sano somehow shook off the Shin no Ippou, grabbed a statue, and swung it down at Jin'e. With ease, Jin'e sidestepped, but Kenshin wasted no time beginning a swordfight with the Kurogasa following. Kenshin and Jin'e were an equal match up until the time Jin'e found an opening and cut Kenshin's left arm slightly. Disappointed, Jin'e left the scene, demanding that Kenshin change back into the Battousai, rather than a non-killing rurouni, and fight for real for their next encounter. Without the Kurogasa's presence, everyone else was freed from the Shin no Ippou.

Kenshin vs. Jin'e(part 2)
Kaoru was kidnapped by Jin'e. In this battle, Kenshin encountered Jin'e the Kurogasa under the moonlight with much anger; angry at himself for lettting Kaoru get kidnapped. What feared Kaoru when she saw Kenshin come to her rescue was that he looked different, almost like Kenshin was another person. Multiple times, Kenshin and Jin'e clashed swords. While running side-by-side, Jin'e tried to hit Kenshin with the Shin no Ippou, but that had no affect. Following, Jin'e tried to hit the rurouni with a series of sword attacks, yet, Kenshin blocked them all, predicting each and every move until Jin'e surprised him by stabbing a short sword into his left shoulder.

In a decision to provoke Kenshin into turning into the Battousai completely, Jin'e hit Kaoru with a powerful Shin no Ippou. As a result, if Kenshin doesn't kill Jin'e or Kaoru doesn't shake it off, Kaoru will die in a few minutes. Using his speed, Kenshin broke Jin'e's nose with his Sakabatou. Jin'e laughed an evil laugh, seeing that Kenshin is getting serious. Jin'e ran forward towards Kenshin after removing his top, but suddenly stopped. Kenshin had given off a powerful battle aura, so to match power with power, Jin'e hypnotized himself with his own Shin no Ippou, using his sword to reflect the technique. Showing no fear, Kenshin got into a Battou Jutsu stance.

Jin'e hesitated before charging forward in attack. Kenshin drew his Sakabatou with lightning speed and missed the Battou Jutsu, as Jin'e had dodged it, but what Jin'e had not expected was to be hit with Kenshin's scabbard. Kenshin had executed the Sou Ryu Sen, dislocating Jin'e's right arm. With Jin'e out of action, Kenshin turned around and raised his sword, prepared to execute the Kurogasa. Not wanting Kenshin to turn back into his former self, Kaoru somehow broke free from the Shin no Ippou. As Kenshin and Kaoru reunited, Jin'e found it only fitting to commit suicide. His dying words asked Kenshin how long he can remain a rurouni and keep the Hitokiri in him sealed.

Sanosuke vs. Hyottoko
When Kenshin decided to harbor Megumi, who was escaping from Kanryu, at the Kamiya Dojo, Hyottoko, the largest Oniwa Banshu member, busted in later that night. Both Kenshin and Sano were prepared to fight, but Sano wanted it more. Hyottoko threw a punch at the charging Sanosuke. Sano had managed to dodge, however, and hit Hyottoko with a punch of his own, causing the big man to stagger back a few inches. Yet, Hyottoko was barely affected, so he grabbed Sano and doused him with fire. Luckily, Sano managed to escape. Kenshin saw through Hyottoko's trick and called it childish. Outraged at Kenshin's words, Hyottoko directed his attack to the rurouni.

Hyottoko tried to douse Kenshin with fire, like he did to Sano, but Kenshin spun his sword in a circular motion until Hyottoko ran out of oil. By time Hyottoko was done refilling on oil, Sano got up and again charge at Hyottoko. Again, Hyottoko spit out his fire, but that didn't stop Sano as he was going directly through the fire. With his hand down deep in Hyottoko's throat, Sano managed to pull out the oil bag Hyottoko stored that allowed him to use his fire technique. Hyottoko knocked Sano off of his face and thought he could handle the ex-gangster without his special technique. Hyottoko charged for Sano, but only received a foot to the face that knocked him out.

Sanosuke vs. Shikijou
Megumi was about to return to Kanryu's mansion, but Sano encountered her at the gates and tried to convince her to go back. Their conversation was interuptted when a ball and chain nearly struck Megumi. Sanosuke had to jump and save the foxy doctor before she was hit. The cause of this was Shikijou, who was standing on a pillar nearby. After his introduction, Shikijou threw his ball and chain at Sano. Sano, using his strength, teared the ball off the chain, leading to Shikijou's descent. Immediately, Sanosuke busted out into a flurry of punches, but Shikijou didn't feel a single thing. Grabbing Sano's arms, Shikijou flung him into the gate's door and followed up with a headbutt.

Shikijou's headbutt should have been devestating, but because of Sano's unmatched stamina, Sano was not knocked out. Shikjou threw a fist at Sano, wanting to end the fight. To his surprise, Sano blocked both of Shikijou's attempts to punch him out. Left in a grapple position, Shikijou broke out and again went for another punch. Left wide open, Sano threw a punch of his own with his mighty right hand, directed in the middle of Shikijou's forehead. All brawn and no brains. Shikijou fell hard to the ground.

Kenshin vs. Hannya
Having to save the kidnapped Megumi from Kanryu, Kenshin had encountered Hannya in Kanryu's mansion's hallway. A fight began immediately, as Hannya had orders from his leader, Aoshi, to deal with Kenshin. The battle started off with Hannya throwing a simple punch. Kenshin had dodged it, or so he thought. To his surprise, Kenshin was punched directly in the face and knocked down with a following backhand. Hannya tried to hit Kenshin while on the ground with a strong fist, but luckily Kenshin evaded. There was something fishy, and Kenshin knew it. Using his Sakabatou, he extended it out into a horizontal position, a defense stance known as Shinken.

Again, Hannya charged forward and threw a punch directed at Kenshin's face. This time, however, Kenshin was able to avoid it. As he moved away, with his scabbard, Kenshin nailed Hannya in the face, causing half of his mask to fall off. At last, Kenshin had discovered Hannya's secret, the horizontal stripes on his arms shorter than they appeared. Without wasting anymore time, Hannya charged forward, metal claws extended. Kenshin had blocked Hannya's oncoming attack. The two warriors jumped away from each other, leaping off the walls opposite to each other in the narrow hallway and attacked one another. It was Hannya who was defeated and Kenshin who left with a minor cut to his right shoulder.

Kenshin vs. Aoshi(part 1)
Hurrying to save Megumi, Kenshin and Sanosuke entered the ballroom of Kanryu's mansion where they met with Aoshi. Sano was eager to take out another Oniwa Banshu member, since he eliminated Shikijo with "ease", so he charged forward to attack Aoshi. After missing two punches, however, Aoshi found an opening and jammed his elbow into Sanosuke's back, knocking him out instantly. Kaoru and Yahiko arrived just in time to protect the unconscious Sanosuke as Kenshin held his hand near his Sakabatou, prepared for battle. Aoshi had drawn his kodachi. Impatient to wait until Kenshin unsheathed his sword, the Oniwa Banshu leader charged forward.

Kenshin was forced to draw his sword to block Aoshi's attack. Once Kenshin had blocked a few of his attacks, Aoshi kicked him in the face, revealing he was the one who taught Hannya kenpo. Following up, Aoshi repeatedly punched Kenshin in his torso. The last punch hit Kenshin so hard, it sent him flying back. Kenshin had managed to regain his balance in midair. This time, he was the one who was charging into attack, but yet, Aoshi blocked his every attempt. Somehow, the punches began to affect Kenshin, but still, the rurouni would not quit.

Aoshi spoke his reasons on why he wanted to fight Kenshin. Simply, he wanted to earn the title of the strongest for his men. Kenshin thought that was a selfish reason and thus, the fight continued. Swords clashed and were punches missed. At last, Aoshi was able to knock Kenshin down with his left fist, but Kenshin had mentioned he has finally found a way to counter Aoshi's kodachi. Instead of gripping his Sakabatou's handle, Kenshin tightened his hand on his sword's blade. When Aoshi attacked, Kenshin was able to send the kodachi right into its wielder's throat. Yet, Aoshi was not finished just yet. He faded out, executing the Ryuusui no Ugoki.

Repeatedly, Kenshin tried to strike Aoshi, but missed. When Aoshi reappeared he executed his Kaiten Kenbu. Kenshin's chest was leaking blood from the three slashes. With that, Kenshin had fallen down. Yahiko finally showed his bravery by challenging Aoshi to a fight, but before it could commence, Kenshin got up. Yahiko's enthused spirit had given Kenshin some hope for the fight and it was revealed Kenshin's sheath had absorbed most of the impact from the Kaiten Kenbu. Again, Aoshi disappeared using his Ryuusui no Ugoki, but when he reappeared, Kenshin tossed away his Sakabatou to catch Aoshi's kodachi.

The execution of the Kaiten Kenbu left Aoshi open for a little while, allowing Kenshin to predict and block. With the kodachi's blade clasped between his hands, Kenshin shoved it back into Aoshi's throat. Aoshi had spat up a lot of blood from the hit. Yet, using whatever strength he had left, Aoshi was able to hit Kenshin with a fierce uppercut. Both men had fallen and neither had lost the battle. It wasn't over; it was just interrupted by Kanryu and his gatling gun.

Yahiko vs. Mikio
To save Tsubame from being a slave under Mikio, Yahiko appeared in the streets at night to deal with Mikio and his gang. Yahiko dealt with Mikio's gang and was doing very well. With some help from Kenshin and Sanosuke, who scared away the rest of the gang, Yahiko was left all alone with Mikio himself. Mikio, however, had a sword. Up against Yahiko's shinai, Mikio looked difficult to beat. For quite some time, Yahiko dodged Mikio's attacks. The only damage received was to his right arm. Yahiko kept dodging until he was forced up against a wall, where his shinai was then cut in half.

Remembering what Kenshin's words, Yahiko barely avoided Mikio's attempt to skewer him against the wall. Mikio's sword was caught in the wall, allowing Yahiko time to retrieve a bokken one of Mikio's lackies left behind. Once Mikio freed his weapon, he turned around and charged towards Yahiko. Diving low, Yahiko clipped Mikio's left knee with the bokken, causing him to fall down. Just to make sure, Yahiko knocked out Mikio for good when he brought down the bokken on Mikio's left shoulder.

Yahiko vs. Yutarou
After Kenshin had just saved him from drowning, Yutarou tried to leave Hana's residence in order to go back to his mansion where Raijuuta and the Shinko Ryu were. Yahiko permitted Yutarou to leave and challenged him to a match, agreeing to let him go if he had beaten him. Yutarou had a sword given to him by Raijuuta, but because of its weight, he was unable to get in any hits. Throughout the entire match, Yahiko basically pummeled Yutarou, slapping him around the field with his shinai. The end result: Yutarou had lost when Yahiko walked away with his complete victory.

Kenshin vs. Raijuuta
Because of his plans to start a kingdom of only Japanese swordsmen, Raijuuta had caused the military to become involved. Many lives were lost at Raijuuta's base, the Tsukayama Mansion. Kenshin wished to end the insanity. He confronted Raijuuta not too far away from the mansion. After a brief exchange of words, Raijuuta executed his Izuna technique. Kenshin had barely dodged the attack, but only his shirt was cut. Again, Raijuuta went for the Izuna. This time, Yutarou stepped in and asked his teacher to stop in hopes of having a more peaceful way of settling things because Kenshin had saved his life previously. Without hesitation, Raijuuta used his Izuna on Yutarou.
Besides just Kenshin, Yutarou, Raijuuta, and his men, Kaoru, Yahiko, and Sanosuke were present. Yutarou was injured, thus he was taken back to Hana's residence by Kaoru and Sano. Yahiko stayed back to watch Kenshin defeat Raijuuta. Raijuuta went wild, throwing his Izuna both on the ground and in the air. As Kenshin dodged the many attacks, in the midst of it, his wrist was slightly cut. Oddly, Raijuuta began to celebrate, but a simple cut would not put Kenshin down. In a fierce rage, Kenshin charged towards Raijuuta, even cutting through his Izuna. With a Do Ryu Sen to send Raijuuta up into the air, Kenshin followed up and put Raijuuta away with a Ryu Tsui Sen.

Kenshin vs. Akamatsu
After Sanosuke was attacked brutally by Saitou at the Kamiya Dojo, a note was left behind, telling Kenshin to go to a field. Kenshin did so, but it was not Saitou he encountered, by Akamatsu. Using his chains, Akamatsu tried to hit Kenshin. However, using his speed, Kenshin managed to dodge all of Akamatsu's attacks. When Akamatsu jumped in midair and somersaulted to throw his chain back at Kenshin, the rurouni drew his Sakabatou, cut Akamatsu's chains in half, and knocked his opponet down to the grond. Without his weapon, Akamatsu pleaded for Kenshin to spare him. That Kenshin did, but as he walked away, he was fooled, as Akamatsu had a hidden chain with him.
Kenshin was thrown around and choked out by Akamatsu's chains. When his opponent finally stayed on the ground, Akamatsu began to ponder why Kenshin is being hunted down, figuring that the politicians want to kill him because he might expose their pasts from the Tokugawa Era. With that said, Kenshin opened his eyes, revealing that he was just playing dead the whole time. In a rage, Akamatsu flung Kenshin towards a large rock. However, Kenshin managed to bounce off the rock instead of being smashed into it. With his Sakabatou drawn, Kenshin headed back towards Akamatsu at full force and won the fight.

Kenshin vs. Saitou
The battle from the Bakumatsu had continued at the Kamiya Dojo. Kenshin had returned home after fighting Akamatsu in a field. A letter written by Saitou had told Kenshin to meet him there, but Saitou never showed up. The reason was because Saitou, posing as Fujita Goro, entered the Kamiya Dojo and waited for Kenshin's arrival. When the sun had set, the battle begun. Saitou sprung forward with his Gatotsu. Kenshin leapt up to avoid it and came down with a Ryu Tsui Sen. To Kenshin's surprise, Saitou had an anti-air Gatotsu, which hit him in stomach. Kenshin had barely managed being skewered, but he was left stuck on Saitou's sword.
Like a piece of garbage, Saitou swung Kenshin off of his sword and into a wall. When Kenshin got up, again, Saitou charged with the Gatotsu. This time, Kenshin managed to block it, but he was knocked back to the wall. With Kenshin left open, Saitou prepared to finish him off. Kaoru made her way into the battle and took a stand before Kenshin. She did not want to see the man she loved be killed by the Mibu Wolf. Still, Kenshin got up and the fight continued. With more power and speed, Kenshin charged for Saitou. It looked as though Kenshin had disappeared for a second, but when Saitou's eyes focused on the rurouni, he kicked Kenshin, sending him back into a wall.
Saitou again used the Gatotsu. Kenshin was ready this time. When Saitou charged, Kenshin ducked and backhanded Saitou's neck with his Sakabatou. Even with Saitou grazed a bit, the battle still continued. Kenshin and Saitou clashed their swords repeatedly until Saitou finally pushed Kenshin up against a wall. Out of desperation, Kenshin kneed Saitou in the jaw and leapt over him. A loose feeling in Saitou's mouth was felt. The police officer spat out blood, and with it, a tooth. In a rage, Saitou charged forward. Foolishly, he let his katana blade to be cut off by Kenshin. However, broken sword or not, Saitou stood in a Gatotsu stance.
Instead of trying to hit Kenshin with an actual Gatotsu, Saitou threw his broken sword at Kenshin. Kenshin swatted the broken weapon away with his left arm. Receiving a large cut on his hand was better than being left open. Everyone watching, Kaoru, Yahiko, Sanosuke, and Megumi, thought that Saitou would now be helpless against Kenshin. Yet, everyone was surprised when Saitou used his own belt to slap Kenshin's hand, forcing him to drop his Sakabatou. Repeated punches were hit on Kenshin following. While stunned from the blows, Kenshin was left staggering for a bit. Saitou took advantage of the situation by choking his old rival with the belt.
With the belt, Saitou was trying to snap Kenshin's neck. Using quick thinking, Kenshin pushed down on his scabbard. That caused the scabbard's other end to rise, hitting Saitou in the chin. The hit was just enough to loosen Saitou's grip. Once Kenshin was free, he took heavy breaths. Slowly during the fight, he was transforming back into the Battousai. Both men were exhausted from their battle. Before it could continue, however, Saitou was stopped by Toshimichi Okubo, the man he was working for. The battle had been carried away by Saitou. Originally, it was planned only to measure the fighting ability of Kenshin to see if he was fit to face Shishio Makoto.

Aoshi vs. Four Giants of Abukuma
Aoshi had returned to the mountains where he had buried his four loyal Oniwa Banshu members after a visit to the Kamiya Dojo to learn the location of Kenshin, only to find four large men loitering around, littering the grave stones of Hannya, Shikijo, Beshimi, and Hyottoko. The four men introduced themselves as the Four Giants of Abukuma and mentioned they were employed under Shishio Makoto. The men hinted for Aoshi to join them and side with Shihio. When Aoshi had asked them to leave or else, since he's not interested in their offer, a fight broke out. However, before the giants were able to use their special attack, Aoshi killed them with his twin kodachis.

Kenshin vs. Senkaku
Kenshin and Shishio had met for the first time at the Shingetsu Village Inn. The first obstacle in Kenshin's path to defeat Shishio was the "ruler" of Shingetsu Village, the large man who had claimed to have killed ninety-nine people, including the parents of Eiji, Senkaku. Throughout their entire fight, Kenshin kept leaping away from Senkaku's grip knives, which were tearing up the floor as he attempted to crush the rurouni. Although their speed was even, eventually, Senkaku's left leg had given out due to the fact that his leg couldn't handle Senkaku's own weight and the stress of the turns as he chased Kenshin.
Kenshin had kept speeding up in the battle, forcing Senkaku's leg to give out sometime. Shishio threatened to kill Senkaku if he didn't force Kenshin to reveal one of his moves, even though he knew his lackey would lose from the beginning. In a rage, Senkaku got up on his broken leg and rushed forward. Feeling pity, Kenshin jumped up at and executed a Ryu Sho Sen, knocking Senkaku down and out.

Kenshin vs. Soujirou(part 1)
The first time Kenshin fought Soujirou was at a Shingetsu Inn. Kenshin had gone with Saitou to confront Shishio Makoto. After battling Senkaku, the "ruler" of the Shingetsu Village, Kenshin was forced into a brief battle with Soujirou. Shishio and Yumi had left the inn, leaving Soujirou behind to deal with the rurouni. As he left, Shishio threw Soujirou his Kotetsu sword. The first stance Kenshin got in was that of the Battou Jutsu. Soujirou mimiced Kenshin. After a semi-lengthy standstill, both men slashed.
Kenshin, armed with his Sakabatou, was up against Soujirou, armed with his Kotetsu. The swords slashed with lightning speed. Even if only one attack came from both men, it was a highlight event. Soujirou had managed to cut Kenshin's Sakabatou in half, while Kenshin shattered Shishio's Kotetsu. Without a sword, Soujirou left in hopes of fighting Kenshin sometime later when he gets a new sword.

Kenshin vs. Chou
In search of Arai Shatku's last sword, Chou first kidnapped Arai Seiku's son Iori to learn the location of the sword. Seiku had told Chou that the sword was dedicated to a Shinto shrine. Just in case he was lying, Chou brought Iori along with him. At the shrine he met up with Kenshin. After recognizing the former Battousai, Chou threw Iori up into a tree and prepared for battle. Kenshin was unarmed at this time, since his Sakabatou had been broken by Soujirou. Armed with a katana, Chou charged forward with a Gatotsu-like attack. Kenshin managed to dodge it, being familiar with the technique, and hit Chou in the back with his scabbard.
Kenshin walked over to Iori and promised that he'd rescue him. Chou had decided to change weapons. He took out one of Arai Shatku's creations, the curved Renbatoya swords. Without looking, Kenshin blocked Chou's attack with his scabbard, broke both swords, and gave a good shot to Chou's gut. Figuring that he wasn't being taken seriously, Chou removed his shirt, revealing his best sword, the Hakujin no Tachi. No sooner, Seiku, Misao, Jiya, and Asuka arrived on the scene. Up against the Hakujin no Tachi, Kenshin barely stood a chance. His scabbard was cut in half and whenever he tried to dodge, the Hakujin no Tachi kept hitting him.
Seiku hesitated before running into the shrine to get the sword. It was until he realized that man, not weapons, make the new era. Chou had tried to prevent Seiku from reaching the shrine. Thanks to Kenshin's broken Sakabatou, the Hakujin no Tachi was stopped before it hit Seiku. As a last resort, Kenshin elbowed Chou in the face. There was nothing else to do until Seiku threw his father's final masterpiece into the hands of Kenshin. Kenshin hesitated to draw the sword, unsure of exactly what it was. He still had to keep his promise of not killing anyone. Chou had threatened to kill Iori, and that caused Kenshin to unsheathe the sword in an angered rage.
It was a trick. Chou wanted Kenshin to become enraged. Kenshin charged forward with full speed. Chou had thought he could finish off Kenshin once and for all, but this time, not even his Hakujin no Tachi could touch him. With a deadly look on his face, Kenshin hit Chou with a Ryu Kan Sen Tsumuji. Later, it was found out that the sword was none other than a Sakabatou. Chou was not killed; he was hit really hard.

Aoshi vs. Okina
Because Aoshi had becomed possessed, Okina had tried to change him back. Aoshi met the old Oniwa Banshu member at "Location A" when he was invited to the shrine up in the moutains. With finding the location of Kenshin on his mind, both men sprung into battle. The Okina was quick for his old age, attacking Aoshi with his two tonfas. Yet, Aoshi blocked every one of his moves. Soon, Aoshi disappeared, moving around Okina like flowing water. When he had come out of the Ryuusi no Ugoki, Okina had blocked his surprise attack. Yet, Aoshi managed to cut one Okina's tonfas with his Onmyou Kousa technique.
Still, Aoshi demanded to know the location of Kenshin, but determined as he was, Okina refused to let out anything. Aoshi had tried to stab the Okina. To his surprise, Okina hit him hard with one of his signature techniques, the Ensatsu Gokoukon. Okina began to feel the battle was shifting over to his side, but his move barely hurt Aoshi. With his kodachis upside-down, Aoshi slashed six times, hitting Okina with the Kaiten Kenbu Rokuren. It wasn't until a few seconds later that Okina fell down to the ground in a pool of his own blood.

Sanosuke vs. Anji
The first challenge of Shishio's base was Anji. Sanosuke had volunteered to go first. The two had met previously and never had thought to meet up again in such a situation. Anji had been working under Shishio because of his extreme hate towards the Meiji Government. Sanosuke hated the government, of course, but he couldn't understand why Anji would demote himself to work for such a man as Shishio. The two Futae no Kiwami users, Anji being the teacher and Sanosuke being the student, clashed. Anji had more of an edge, since he could use the Futae no Kiwami with basically any part of his body.
Throughout the entire bout, Sanosuke dodged Anji's blows, waiting for the right opportunity to strike. Once he hit Anji with the Futae no Kiwami in his chest, Sanosuke had thought he won the match, but it was just beginning. There was a memorial table that defended Anji. Both struck each other repeatedly with the Futae no Kiwami, but they never fell down. Anji and Sanosuke neutralized each blow using the Kiwami Hazushi. When Anji pulled out his short sword and executed the Touate, Sanosuke flew back after being hit hard. When Sanosuke got up, he threw a right, which collided into the right fist of Anji.
Both men had struggled to become the victor, but in the end, neither had won. When the two Futae no Kiwamis hit, it was Sanosuke who broke the connection. Anji had seen the light at last. He had regretted killing the men he had killed. The ones he had lost because of the Meiji Government could not be brought back by killing, that's what Sanosuke was trying to tell him during their battle. Sanosuke was unofficially declared the winner.

Saitou vs. Usui
Moving along in Shishio's base, Saitou had volunteered to deal with Usui, allowing Kenshin, Sanosuke, and Yumi to move along. The first thing Saitou did was use his Gatotsu attack. The blind Hitokiri Usui simply blocked Saitou's attack with his rochin and countered with his Pouken Pougyoku Hyakka Ryouran, wounding Saitou's right hand, left shoulder, and right leg. Abrutely, the fight was paused while Usui told his story about how he can fight using his Shin Gan. Saitou listens and finds the story a complete joke. Usui claimed that he had been waiting to kill Shishio after Shishio had blinded him, but Saitou knows Usui is too much of a coward to do so.
Outraged and embarassed that Saitou had seen his true intentions, Usui charged towards the Miburo. Again, Saitou executed his Gatotsu, but this time, Usui held out his turtle shell shield. Saitou had hit that. Usui's shield was not so easy to go through as Saitou had thought. Taking advantage of the situation, Usui stabbed Saitou in his left thigh with the rochin. The same set of moves were then repeated, but now, both of Saitou's legs had been stabbed. Following, Usui got into Saitou's face, making him unable to use the Gatotsu. To prove Usui wrong, Saitou showed off his Zero Gatotsu, which broke Usui's shield and drilled him onto a wall, leaving him hanging as he died.

Kenshin vs. Aoshi(part 2)
While passing through Shishio's base, headed for Soujirou's room, Kenshin had entered Hoji's room after sensing that Aoshi had been inside. Aoshi was inside indeed, and he was prepared to tear Kenshin apart to earn the title of the strongest for himself and the Oniwa Banshu. Kenshin had promised Misao to bring the real Aoshi back to the Aoiya, thus, the battle had started. Without drawing his sword, Kenshin rushed forward, as did Aoshi. Kenshin threw a dozen of books in Aoshi's face to begin things, but simply, Aoshi cut through them with his twin kodachis. Really, Kenshin didn't want to fight Aoshi, so he tried not to fight him head-on.
Separated by a bookshelf, Kenshin tackled into it, causing a bunch of books to topple over. Enraged, Aoshi cut the books and the bookshelf, targetting Kenshin. Luckily, Kenshin had drawn his Sakabatou to block, but his game plan had changed. Once Kenshin had leapt away from the collision of swords, Aoshi charged after him, slashing him various directions. Kenshin was cut a few times in the onslaught, but once Aoshi had left himself open, Kenshin immediately went for the Ryu Kan Sen. To Kenshin's surprise, Aoshi had blocked the attack. With an elbow to the face, Aoshi knocked Kenshin down.
Down and against a bookshelf was Kenshin. One of Aoshi's kodachis had come flying directly at him as Aoshi executed his Onmyou Hasshi. Kenshin blocked it quickly, but yet another one sprung forward. As quick as he blocked the first kodachi, Kenshin avoided the second. Aoshi kicked Kenshin in his face after he avoided from being hit twice, demanding that Kenshin fight seriously. After a brief exchange of words, Kenshin got up and charged for Aoshi. Both men clashed again. Kenshin was shoved back into the bookshelf and Aoshi tried to stab him. Again, Kenshin dodged Aoshi's attack and kicked him in the side to get away from up against the wall.
Once Kenshin was free, Aoshi crossed his kodachis, attempting his Gokou Juuji. Kenshin immediately broke the stance by moving Aoshi's swords apart with a Ryu Sho Sen. Following, Kenshin leapt into the air and came down with a Ryu Tsui Sen. Aoshi had blocked the attack, but when Kenshin somersaulted in midair, he was hit. Now, Kenshin was fighting seriously, but he wanted to make something clear. Kenshin told Aoshi that he was being selfish and was disgracing the name of his friends by acting in such a manner to earn the title of the strongest. Aoshi has become possessed and has forgotten his original goal. Only Kenshin could turn Aoshi back.
Aoshi had realized that he had done wrong. Frustrated, he began to slap Kenshin around. Once he was relieved of frustration, Aoshi promised to return to the Aoiya, but only after the fight was completed. During the silence previous to the final attacks, Sanosuke heard a clicking sound. Finally, he realized that Yumi was contacting Shishio by telegraph, so he warned Kenshin not to use the succession technique. Aoshi took advantage of the situation as Kenshin's attention was distracted for a second. With both kodachis turned upside-down, Aoshi charged forward, ready to hit the Kaiten Kenbu Roku Ren. Without a second wasted, Kenshin hit Aoshi with the Amakakeru Ryuu No Hirameki to end the battle.

Yahiko vs. Hen'ya
The first of the Aoiya battles was not meant to take place. When Kamatari had suddenly hinted she was a male, what originally was planned changed. Instead of Yahiko and Kaoru facing Henya, it ended up as just Yahiko. Henya was disappointed in fight "some kid", so he wanted to end the fight quickly. Using what was considered cheap, Henya flew into the air and relentlessly dropped dynamite onto Yahiko below. Only once did Henya sweep down to cut Yahiko with the blade on his hand. By time Henya was running low on dynamite, Yahiko had figured out a plan. Using the smoke from an explosion, Yahiko used a door to elevate up to a rooftop where he swatted the flyinig man down with an imitation of the Ryu Tsui Sen.

Kaoru & Misao vs. Kamatari
Right after Yahiko's victory over Henya, this battle began. Kaoru started off things by charging forward at Kamatari with a bokken in hand. Kamatari had swung, but Kaoru leapt into the air, allowing Misao to attack head on. To Misao's surprise, Kamatari was expecting an attack. Swinging his great scythe, a combination of a scythe and chain, caused the ball end to drill into Misao's gut. With Misao down and out on a rooftop, Kamatari began his Midare Benten, an assault with his great scythe that both attacks and defends. All Kaoru could do was run. However, when Misao woke up with newfound hope, Okina had tossed her a new set of kunais. With fast eye contact, Kaoru and Misao were able to make a quick plan.
Even with busted ribs, Misao executed her Kansatsu Tobi Kunai, directed at Kamatari's scythe. It looked as though Kamatari had blocked all of the kunais, but then Kaoru struck the great scythe with her bokken. The powerful blow executed from the Kamiya Kasshin Ryuu master broke both weapons. Misao's attack had not been wasted, as it had helped as a wedge to break off the scythe portion, yet the fight was not yet won. Kamatari used the two hooks on his scythe's handle to hook onto the chain and began spinning it fast. This was Kamatari's Benten Mawashi. Kamatari hurled the spinning chain at Kaoru. Quickly, she ducked under, dived towards Kamatari's left knee, broke her bokken handle on it, and ended the battle for good.

Hiko vs. Fuji
Fuji and Saizuchi had invaded the Aoiya area after Henya, Kamatari, and Iwanbou failed to complete their mission of capturing the Aoiya. No one would stand up to the giant Fuji until Kenshin's master had arrived on the scene to protect Yahiko from being pounded in by Fuji's large sword. Hiko recognized the talent Fuji possessed and saw the warrior behind his mask. Kenshin's master had asked the large man to take off his mask and armor, so he would fight with his full strength and ability. That Fuji did.
Standing in their stances, Hiko and Fuji remained motionless for quite some time. With a giant downward strike, Fuji hoped to smash the man who was the only person to recognize him as a normal human being. However, all Fuji did was create a large crater in the ground. Hiko had leapt upwards onto Fuji's sword when he brought it back up as the dusk cleared. It was all over from then. With one move, Hiko was able to take down the massive Fuji and even crack his large sword. Using his best move, the Kuzu Ryu Sen, Hiko had defeated Fuji.

Kenshin vs. Soujirou(part 2)
The final stage before Shishio was Soujirou. Upon Kenshin, Sanosuke, and Yumi's arrival, Soujirou welcomed them and mentioned that he'd have to fight like all of the Juppon Gatana because their Aoiya takeover operation had failed. To start things off, like their previous fight in Shingetsu Village, both Kenshin and Soujirou readied themselves in a Battou Jutsu stance. When the attacks were executed, their swords had clashed. Kenshin had skidded halfway across the room, leaving Soujirou's blade a little bit cracked. No matter, Soujirou just used his speed to his advantage. His god-like Shukuchi technique is what Soujirou used to accelerate.
Soujirou became nothing more but a blur. Kenshin was able to dodge and block Soujirou on a few occassions, but he couldn't keep it up. At last, Kenshin resorted to using the Kuzu Ryu Sen, which he thought was unblockable and unavoiable. To his surprise, Soujirou evaded the attack. With Kenshin left open, Soujirou sliced the rurouni across the back. Following, Soujirou continued his onslaught. A slash on Kenshin's right shoulder was accurate, but sometime during his assault, Soujirou began speaking of disagreement with Kenshin's ideals. Something was holding Soujirou back from fighting with his full potential. Soujiriou sprung forward again with the Shukuchi, but asked for a timeout. His sandal's lace had broke.
As he tied his sandal's lace, Soujirou thought back to his dark past. Once back in battle, Soujirou was even more faster than before. When he clashed swords with Kenshin, Soujirou demanded to know why Kenshin didn't protect him when he was weak. Confused and angered, Soujirou leapt up and tried to strike Kenshin. With his coolhead gone, Kenshin was able to avoid Soujirou's attack. Kenshin had his blade pointed directly at Soujirou's face when the dust settled, but he refused to take the victory just yet. The motto of Shishio being the world is the survival of the fittest and the kind ideals of Kenshin ran wild in Soujirou's mind. Soon, the boy snapped.
Looking back to his past, Soujirou has some regret for the people he's killed, yet, that wouldn't stop him from killing Kenshin. Both fighters again got into a Battou Jutsu stance, but this time, their most powerful techniques would be used. Kenshin's Ama Kakeru Ryuu no Hirameki was up against Soujirou's Shun Ten Satsu. In an instant, both men disappeared, but the one coming out on his two feet was Kenshin. Soujirou's blade was cut off and he was down and out. The battle had finally ended.

Kenshin vs. Shishio
After battles with Aoshi and Soujirou, Kenshin, a bit beaten up, entered the final battle to decide the fate of Japan with Shishio Makoto. Shishio's special Big Burning Room at the top of his base was the location. The two powers clashed and it was Kenshin who was knocked back. Rebounding, Kenshin leapt up and slammed his sword down on Shishio, who had blocked. The power from the impact was tremendous, it pushed Shishio into the floor a bit, but again, the two found their swords connected to each other. Shishio decided to use his first technique here. Lighting his sword on fire, using Kenshin's Sakabatou, Shishio hit Kenshin with his Homura Dama.
Kenshin was cut and burnt slightly. Following up, Kenshin executed the Ryu Sho Sen. Because Shishio had seen the technique from Kenshin's fight with Senkaku at the Shingetsu Village Inn, he was able to easily catch Kenshin's sword before it touched him. Shishio then placed his hand over Kenshin's face and took a bite out of his neck. That had stunned Kenshin for a bit, but when he got up, Shishio and him discussed their goals. Neither had seemed to agree with one another, thus, the fight resumed. Shishio had surprised Kenshin. Using his Homura Dama technique, Shishio created a wall of fire around his opponent. Out from the flames came Shishio's hand to grab Kenshin by the neck.
There was no escape from Shishio's grasp. Kenshin was helpless was Shishio igniting his sword and cut his gunpowder soaked glove. An explosion, Shishio's Guren Kaina technique, had sent Kenshin flying. Kenshin was knocked unconscious from the attack. Just when things were looking bad for Sanosuke, all alone on Kenshin's side, the doors to the arena were broken through. Saitou had made a grand entrance with his Gatotsu aimed for the head of Shishio. Once it connected, Saitou put a grin on his face. However, that grin soon disappeared. Shishio had an iron bandanna equipped.
Saitou wasn't fighting to help Kenshin; he was fighting for his own sense of justice. Once again, Saitou executed his Gatotsu, but Shishio caught his blade after learning the frequently used technique. Deciding to change things, Saitou used his Gatotsu's second stance. Shishio avoided that by using his Homura Dama to create a wall of fire. The distraction allowed Shishio to leap away into the air, but Saitou followed up with an anti-air Gatotsu just as Shishio was coming down with his Mugen Jin. When both had landed on their feet, it was Saitou who was hurt. Yet, Shishio had his back turned to the Miburo. Without wasting time, Saitou executed his Zero Gatotsu.
Surprisingly, Shishio was able to block the zero stance Gatotsu. With his hand near Saitou's open wound in his chest, Shishio touched his gunpowder soaked glove with his burning Mugen Jin. Saitou was thrown back from the Guren Kaina's explosion. The same technique had knocked both Kenshin and Saitou out. Enraged, Sanosuke charged into battle, ignoring Kenshin's request of not interfering. Sanosuke's first punch was avoided, but his second was caught. Shishio squeezed Sanosuke's fist until he punched him away in the gut.
Somehow, Sanosuke was able to find an opening in his second charge towards Shishio. The Futae no Kiwami was hit accurately on Shishio's cheek, but also broke Sanosuke's fist. Yet, the move barely grazed Shishio. A bit annoyed by Sanosuke, Shishio rocked him with a powerful punch, sending the ex-gangster crashing into a wall. Victory was on the mind of Shishio. He had defeated all of his opponents and began celebrating with a lengthy evil laugh. However, there was one man left for him to face. Aoshi stepped onto the battlefield to stall time for Kenshin to recover. Their alliance, short as it was, had been broken.
Aoshi faded away, using his Ryuusui no Ugoki. Shishio would not be tricked by what he considered a slow technique. Shishio's Mugen Jin and Aoshi's twin kodachis clashed a few times. Once separated from Shishio, Aoshi crossed his swords and ran forward, prepared to execute the Gokou Juuji. Shishio saw the move coming, so he easily blocked and thrusted the butt of his sword into Aoshi's throat. Aoshi was up against a wall and Shishio attempted to strike him with his Homura Dama. With whatever strength he had left, Aoshi managed to leap behind Shishio. Again, Shishio cockily left himself open for an attack. Aoshi hesitated before turning his kodachis upside-down.
As predicted, Aoshi used his Kaiten Kenbu Rokuren. Again, Shishio surprised someone when he blocked their most powerful move. Aoshi had lost his one of his kodachis and was knocked back by Shishio's Homura Dama, but that's when the wind started to grow heavy and leaves began to circle around the arena. Kenshin was revived, and so were Saitou and Sanosuke. Shishio liked the challenge, but Yumi was concerned about her lover fighting for over fifteen minutes by then. Kenshin and Shishio clashed once again. Unfortunately, the same event was repeating itself. Kenshin got his neck caught by Shishio's hand.
Thoughts ran wild in Kenshin's mind. He had a goal, and that was to return to the ones he loved. With a newfound determination, Kenshin broke out of Shishio's grasp, causing his own attack to explode in his own face. A five hit combination was then executed by Kenshin - Ryu Tsui Sen, Ryu Sho Sen, Ryu Kan Sen Kogarashi, Ryu Kan Sen Tsumuji, and Ryu Kan Sen Arashi. All five were consecutively hit. Shishio had barely blocked all five attacks. Still, Kenshin's deadly combination had not knocked Shishio off of his feet. Shishio decided to hit Kenshin with an attack of his own. The Homura Dama was executed, yet, that had no affect on Kenshin. His body was no longer affected by it.
Quickly, Kenshin performed the Kuzu Ryu Sen. The final blow of the nine hits was at Shishio's head. Shishio was thrown back from the power of the technique and was temporarily knocked out. As Kenshin caught his breath, the flames around the arena began to scream. Like how the wind and leaves reacted to Kenshin's warrior spirits, the flames were reacting to Shishio's. Shishio had been revived just like Kenshin. There was only one round left in the battle and the only way to decide who'd be the winner was with the succession techniques of both men.
Kenshin had executed his Ama Kakeru Ryuu no Hirameki once both he and Shishio were prepared. Somehow, Shishio blocked the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu succession technique. With his Mugen Jin, Shishio ignited it by sparking it on his scabbard. A tornado of fire known as Shishio's Kaguzuchi succession technique circled around the Mugen Jin. However, a mysterious void opened up and began sucking Shishio closer to Kenshin. The Ama Kakeru Ryuu no Hirameki had created the abyss. There was no escape for Shishio, he was struck with a powerful Ama Kakeru Ryuu no Hirameki. When he got up, however, Shishio began furiously scratching his body.
Because he had an abnormal body temperature and surpassed his limits, Shishio was burning up. Yumi had run into the battlefield and asked for Kenshin to discontinue the fight. Kenshin lowered his Sakabatou in respect of Yumi's request, but Shishio took advantage of the situation. He stabbed Kenshin in the side and also stabbed Yumi in the process. Yumi had found happiness in death, as she had finally assisted Shishio once in battle. Kenshin found no reason for happiness in such a predicament. With Yumi's death, Shishio had somehow summoned up even more power, the last of whatever he had left.
Shishio had far surpassed his own limits. His body temperature was boiling as his own blood evaporated. The wound in his side had Kenshin kneeling on the ground. When Shishio struck down, all Kenshin could do was helplessly block. Shishio's power was great, so great that even Kenshin thought for a second he might lose. However, Kenshin had the determination to live. As the floor began to break apart, Shishio suddenly stopped pushing Kenshin down. For the second time, Shishio began scratching his body intensely. Finally, he combusted into flames. The flames of Hell inside of him finally took his life. Kenshin had won the ultimate battle.
