Despite being the son of a craftsman most noted for forging swords that would be used for murder, Seikuu did not follow in his father's footsteps. He never agreed with his father's theory that swords would help bring about change. Although he did inherit the knowledge of creating such works as his father, Seikuu instead tried to live a more normal lifestyle, for it was the Meiji Era afterall, by selling cooking knives with his wife Asuza in Kyoto.
When Kenshin's Sakabatou-Shinuichi had broken in a duel with Soujirou, he was asked by the rurouni to create a sword that would own a similar reverse blade, but he declined the request. However, when Chou appeared and held his son's life into his own hands, Seikuu had put his trust into Kenshin and believed that he would help fight the opression of those who wanted to bring about harm by giving him his father's last masterpiece, a replacement for the Sakabatou-Shinuichi that was dedicated to a samurai shrine.
