As an underling of Shishio's, Senkaku was given authority to rule over the Shingetsu Village when he took it over by force with an army of men. Senkaku is one who's ruthless; he'll kill anyone for any little reason. Before taking on Kenshin, Senkaku had killed 99 people, including the parents of Eiji. The size of Senkaku is immense, so it's a wonder how he can move so quickly when armed with two grip knives as well.

After his loss to Kenshin, Senkaku escaped from the Shingetsu Village where he was held captive. He got away easily compared to some others who would have died when they failed Shishio. From then on, Senkaku swore he'd be a different man. He saw Kenshin as the one who saved his life and showed him the way. Unfortunately, however, Senkaku's life was cut short before he could do any good by Soujirou.
