Shougo was trained in the style Hitten Mitsurugi Ryuu by Hyoue Niishida, his uncle, Hyoue never could learn the Amakakeru Ryu No Hirameki, for the reason that Hiko # 12 supposedly killed him and trained Hiko # 13. But it seems that in some form he survived and teached the Hitten Mitsurugi Ryuu to Shougo. He believed that he was The God Son, and obtained a good number of followers, but he was betrayed by Kaioh and in addition Kenshin made him to see the reality.
He called himself The God Son to came to take revenge on those who had killed the faithful. However, Kenshin learns that he is another successor of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu, a man who mastered the ougi at age 14. He had rendered Kenshin blind during their first encounter with Rai Ryu Sen, a technique he first used on Hyoue, his master. During his childhood, Shougo witnessed the death of both his parents and swore revenge upon his return to Japan. So, during his stay abroad, he studied both Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu and Western medicine and science. Although he could cure any illness, he couldn't save his sister. In the end, after being defeated, Shougo was exiled to Holland along with his followers.
